What is the ALIBI copyright policy?
Outline of the ALIBI copyright policy
ALIBI MUSIC LP
COPYRIGHT POLICY
February 20, 2020
Status: Alibi has been adding work for hire original compositions and recording of those compositions since 2011. The work has been protected by common law copyright, but has not been formally registered with the United States Copyright Office. In order to obtain the protection offered through formal registration of the work through the Copyright Office, commencing immediately Alibi will register sound recordings and their underlying musical compositions as follows:
New Work: Current Copyright Office policy allows the group registration of up to 10, non-published, sound recordings at one time, for a fee of $55. Therefore prior to the publishing of any new album on the Library’s website (either in the Alibi Music & FX catalog or in the ATX catalog) the Metadata Analyst will forward to the Administrative Assistant the following information necessary for registration of all songs on the album, even if there are more than 10 songs on the album:
Song Title; ISRC Code; AIFF file for each song, labeled with the song title; Name of composer(s); and date work created.
The Administrative Assistant will prepare and file for copyright for each song on the album and will advise the Metadata when filing has been completed so that the album may be “published” on the Alibi website. The Administrative Assistant will also change the status of the song on the Alibi Music database from non-copyrighted to Applied For.
Licensed Work: Effective January 1, 2020, the Administrative Assistant will obtain a monthly report from the Senior Accountant listing each tract of music (not FX) licensed for that month. The Administrative Assistant will confirm whether or not a song is registered with the Copyright Office. If it is not, she shall formally apply for registration individually for each song not yet copyrighted. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for changing the status of the song from “not registered” (blank on the db) to “Applied For”.
Copyright Documentation: Upon receipt of formal documentation of registration for each song from the Copyright Office, the Administrative Assistant shall:
- File physical copies alphabetically by song title.
- File digital copies alphabetically by song title.
